SUGGESTED ANSWER:
“There are various reasons why I wish to join Cheshire Police as an officer. It’s a career that will enable me to positively influence Cheshire society through my work. Additionally, I want to work as a police officer because of the commitment and responsibility required of me. My personality is that of someone who wants to advance, learn, and be placed in situations that will put my skill set and communication abilities to the test. I am most satisfied when I believe I am learning and being challenged at work, and there is so much to learn in the profession of a police officer, which really appeals to me. The fact that I will interact often with Cheshire locals, police officers, and other interested parties in the management of the police department further appeals to me about the position.”
SUGGESTED ANSWER
“Strong communication abilities are necessary for a police officer to do their duties in a number of situations, including conversing with people, listening to them, and gathering written and oral evidence. Police personnel must adjust their communication style while speaking with suspects and victims, but they must also uphold consistency with regard to the values, norms, and operational procedures of the police service. Other essential abilities include the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. You must prioritise the needs of your team as a police officer and set a good example. You must also have self-assurance and the ability to persevere in order to handle the various challenges and situations you will commonly face as a police officer. The general public relies on you to behave in a professional and composed manner in a range of circumstances. Police officers are required to have a thorough understanding of the law, their own procedures, and community requirements. Finally, police officers need to be able to take charge of difficult circumstances, community challenges, and criminal cases.”

Yes! I Want To Pass My Interview!During the selection process, you may have to sit two interviews, one will be the competency-based interview which forms part of the Online Assessment Process (OAP). Now, this interview is not live and you will sit this from the comfort of your own home.
To prepare for this interview it is vital that you are prepared in the following areas:
The second interview you might face as part of the selection process is the in-force or final interview. This can happen at any point of the selection process, but usually you will sit this at the end of your recruitment journey. The idea of this interview is so the recruitment team, along with senior police officers, can meet with you to discuss your motivations for wanting to become a police officer.
Cheshire constabulary is a territorial police service based in the North-West of England. It covers an area of 905 square miles, including the areas of Cheshire East and West, Chester, Halton, Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington.
First formed in 1857, Cheshire Constabulary currently employs 2,081 police officers, 281 Special constables and nearly 170 PCSO’s. The personnel are spilt over Cheshire’s 22 police stations. Cheshire constabulary serves a community of 1.1 million people. Overseeing responsibility of Cheshire Police is Chief Constable Mark Roberts, who took over from the Darren Martland who retired after 30 years’ service in April 2021. Mark Roberts was previously deputy chief constable at South Yorkshire Police.
Yes, Cheshire police are currently recruiting for new police officers. The recruitment window opened In May 2021, and is still actively open for degree apprenticeship police officer roles. Please be aware that Cheshire Police does not use the full competency application form. Only basic information is required at the application form stage.
There is no current upper age limit to become a police officer in the UK. However, you want to bear in mind that most police officers retire at the age of 55, and all candidates are required to undertake a two-year probationary period. The minimum starting age is 18, you can apply before your 18th birthday, but you would not be able to start until you turn 18.
There is not a recognised route from becoming a PCSO and progressing to the role of a police officer. However, the skills and experiences you would gain as a PCSO, would certainly be helpful to you if applying to become a police officer. A PCSO would certainly have an in-depth knowledge of, and be able to demonstrate, the required competencies and values of a police officer and therefore be an advantage during the selection process.
