Here’s the FULL LIST of DYFED-POWYS POLICE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS:

Q1. Why do you want to become a police officer?

SUGGESTED ANSWER:

“My aspiration to join the Dyfed-Powys Constabulary and work there as a police officer stems from a number of different places. My job would enable me to have a positive influence on the county of Dyfed-Powys if I were to obtain this post. In addition, I want to work for the police force because the profession requires a lot of responsibility and devotion. My disposition leans toward furthering my education and career, as well as putting myself in situations that will challenge my interpersonal abilities. Given how much there is to discover out about it, the job of a police officer is one that particularly piques my attention. When I feel that I am gaining new knowledge and succeeding in conquering challenges at work, I feel encouraged. The fact that I will regularly engage with inhabitants of Dyfed-Powys, police officers, and other individuals involved in the management of the police force is one of the aspects of this role that really appeals to me.”

Q2. What skills are needed to be a police officer?

SUGGESTED ANSWER

“A police officer has to be able to communicate effectively in a range of circumstances in order to be able to conduct their work properly. This includes being able to interact with and listen to suspects and witnesses, as well as gathering written and spoken evidence. While interacting with suspects and victims, police officers are required to modify their communication methods; yet, they are also required to maintain consistency with regard to the standards, operational procedures, and guiding principles of the police service. One of the most important abilities that you need to have is the capacity to work both individually and in a group setting. Officers of the law are expected to behave in a manner that others will find admirable and to place the needs of their unit ahead of their own. As a police officer, you will regularly encounter an array of challenging scenarios, all of which will require you to maintain a strong sense of self-assurance and resolve. In a number of different settings, people turn to you as a source of protection and reassurance. It is necessary for police officers to have a thorough understanding of the law, as well as their own procedures and any applicable local legislation. Cases involving criminal activity, issues in the community, and unexpected events all require the expertise of police officers.”

How do you become a Dyfed-Powys police officer?

To become a police officer with Dyfed-Powys, you will be required to pass a stringent and lengthy selection process, designed so only very best candidates succeed. This is split into a number of stages. However, before going into this, we recommend you check your eligibility to become a police officer, as there are certain criteria which may result in your application being rejected. You can find the eligibility criteria here at the link below.

https://police-recruitment.co.uk/eligibility-and-medical/

Once you have been through this and you are eligible to apply, you can start your application by applying via the Dyfed-Powys police website. You will gain access to an online portal to start your application.

Application Stage

  • Level 3 qualification ability test. If you do not have a current A level, you will be required to sit an additional test to assess your ability to a level 3 qualification. If you have an A level, you will not be required to undertake this test.
  • Regardless of your qualifications, you will be required to undergo a Behavioural Styles Questionnaire and a Situational Judgement Test. If you fail either of these you will not be asked to continue in the selection process.
  • Complete the online competency-based application form.

Online Assessment Process (OAP)

  • Competency-Based Interview –  As part of the OAP, you will be required to undertake an online interview where you will be asked a series of questions on how you have dealt with specific situations from your past.
  • Written Exercise – In this exercise, you will be given a written task to complete by your manager, you will receive a scenario and 4 pieces of supporting information to assist you. During this exercise you will assume the role of a police constable.
  • Briefing Exercise – You will be presented with issues in the community and will be asked to answer questions in relation to resolving the issue. You will also be provided with preparation materials to assist you with constructing your responses.

Final Interview

This interview is based on your values and how they align with the values of Dyfed-Powys police. You will be asked a number of questions in relation to why you want to become a police officer, what you will bring to the role and how you will fit into the organisation.

DYFED-POWYS Police Officer – Your Questions Answered!

Q1: What area does Dyfed-Powys cover?

Dyfed-Powys police covers an area of 3,360 square miles and includes the areas of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys. It is known for vast rural areas and over 350 miles of coastline.

Q2: Who is the chief constable of Dyfed-Powys police?

Claire Parmenter is the temporary chief constable of Dyfed-Powys police. Having joined in 1993, Claire has served in a variety of uniformed roles. She has also worked on nationwide initiatives such as the supporting the national rollout of neighbourhood policing.

Claire is also an advocate for change and improvement in Dyfed-Powys police and has led a number of change programmes. Her achievements led to her promotion to Deputy Chief Constable in 2019 and to her current role of Temporary Chief Constable which she acquired in March 2021.

Q3: What do the application on-line tests consist of?

The application online tests consist of a Situational Judgement Test and a Behavioural Styles questionnaire. The situational judgement test will test your ability to make the correct choice when presented with a scenario and a number of options on how you would approach the scenario.

The behavioural styles questionnaire will ask you a number of questions about yourself. For example; you may be faced with the statement ‘I am someone who acts with integrity at all times’. You will then be asked to rank how this applies to you. There will be answer choices given which range from ‘completely agree’ at one end of the scale to ‘completely disagree’ at the other. When undertaking both these exercises you need to bear in mind the competencies and values framework, as these are what the exercises will be assessed against. For example:  ‘Integrity’ is one of the key values of a police officer, therefore if you answered the question above as ‘I strongly disagree’ this is unlikely to score well.

Q4: How many police officers are in Dyfed-Powys police?

There are 1,145 police officers plus nearly 90 special constables working for Dyfed-Powys police. These cover an area of 3,360 square miles with a population of 500,000. This is swelled in the summer months by large numbers of tourists visiting the area.
