SUGGESTED ANSWER:
“For a variety of reasons, I’ve been thinking of making an application for the position of police officer in Merseyside. Working here will allow me to put my talents to good use and make a difference in people’s lives. Being a police officer has always been a great aspiration of mine. If given the chance, I will learn and grow professionally and personally in a challenging and fast-paced workplace, which is precisely the sort of job I desire. In my working life, I find the greatest fulfilment when I am always learning and improving. Joining the police force seemed to be an excellent option to me because there are several opportunities for growth in that field. What I’m looking forward to most about this job are chances to meet new people and tackle new problems on a daily basis in the county of Merseyside.”
SUGGESTED ANSWER
“Police officers must be capable of effective communication. The capacity of an officer to speak with and listen to members of the public, as well as obtain both written and spoken evidence, is critical to their work effectiveness. Officers must adhere to the police department’s principles, standards, and operational procedures while speaking with suspects, witnesses, and victims. It is critical to be able to work both alone and collectively as a team. If you want to be a good Police Officer, you must prioritise the welfare of your community and set a positive example for the people you serve. Because of the nature of the work, police personnel must be self-assured and capable of recuperating fast from setbacks. Many people look up to you because they know they can rely on your knowledge and calm direction in difficult times. Officers must be well-versed in the region they monitor as well as the safety measures in place. Officers must be able to collaborate as well as think independently in order to solve crimes, complex circumstances, and community problems.”

Once you have established you are eligible to apply, you can start the ball rolling by applying via the forces website. There are a number of stages which you will have to pass in order to become a police officer with Merseyside police.
If you pass all of these stages, you will receive a formal offer of employment and receive a confirmation for your in-take date to start your career with Merseyside Police.
Q1: Are Merseyside Police recruiting?
Like with other Police Services, Merseyside Police have windows in which they recruit. When the recruitment window is not open you could spend some time finding out about the selection process and start your preparation in advance of the recruitment window opening. This would definitely be of benefit to you.
Q2: What is the degree holder entry programme?
The Degree Holder Entry Programme or DHEP for short, is one of three latest recognised routes into policing in the UK. To be eligible to apply for this route, you would already have a degree in any subject. You can use this to help gain the required diploma in professional policing practice. The course itself will combine university study alongside your operational duties as a probationary police officer. The course takes two years to complete.
Q3: What is the hardest part of the police officer recruitment process?
The answer to that question is simply that there are no stages which are more difficult than others. All of the stages are challenging and are designed to ensure that the police service get the very best candidates passing the gruelling selection process.
Being a police officer is not a standard job, and requires certain skills and attributes which not everyone possesses. The process is designed to find the candidates which possess these skills and demonstrate these in their personal and working life.
Q4: Can I apply if I have made a previous application?
Yes, you can apply, however depending on which stage you reached is what the time-frame will be. If you fail at the application stage, you will need to wait a further 6 months to apply again, this could be longer if the police service in question are not currently recruiting.
If you reach the assessment stage and fail, you will have to wait 6 months to apply again. However, depending on how close your score was to the pass mark, you may be able to re-sit this stage instead of having to complete the previous steps. However, this does vary between the specific police forces and you should check with the recruitment team.
