SUGGESTED ANSWER:
“Many aspects of working with Nottinghamshire Police Service appeal to me. As a part of this team, I will be able to put my skills to use and improve not just the county, but also the lives of its residents. My long-term career objective has always been to join the police service and serve as a police officer. If given the opportunity, I am certain that I will be able to grow as a person and as a professional in this high-pressure, fast-paced atmosphere. I feel a huge feeling of satisfaction and achievement when I challenge myself to develop and learn in my professional life. Being a police officer appeals to me because I am resilient, devoted to my profession, and able to handle the obligations that come along with the job. The capacity to make Nottinghamshire a safer place for all of its citizens, as well as the opportunity of often experiencing new challenges, are two key aspects of this work that spark my interest.”
SUGGESTED ANSWER
“Any police officer who want to advance in his or her career must be able to communicate effectively. A police officer must be able to engage with members of the public, listen to what they have to say, and acquire evidence via both written and oral means in order to be effective. When dealing with criminal suspects, witnesses, and victims, police officers must follow the department’s stated principles, standards, and operational procedures. It is critical to be able to work well both independently and collectively. Being a respected police officer entails doing all possible to ensure the safety of the people you have pledged to serve and protect. Because the nature of the work is unpredictable, police officers must be confident in their abilities to overcome unanticipated problems. People look up to you because they know they can always rely on your insight and expertise regardless of the challenges they confront. Officers are expected to have a detailed awareness of the territory under their authority as well as the public safety measures in place. To fully investigate crimes and solve concerns made by local communities, police officers must work together as well as independently.”

Yes! I Want To Pass My Interview!Nottinghamshire police currently offers a number of different routes into policing which are a combination of the current college of policing degree schemes plus the older entrance routes to give you more options:
Initial Policing and Learning Development Program – This program allows candidates to join as a police constable and follow an internal training programme. You must have a GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths to join via this route. You do not receive a degree with this route.
Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship – This program is open to candidates, who do not have a degree, but would like to work towards one. To be eligible for this route, you do need at least two A levels as a minimum qualification. The course itself will be combined with your duties as a police officer and will last for three years. After three years all being well you will receive your degree in professional policing practice.
Degree Holder Entry Programme – This route is open to existing degree holders who can use their current degree to qualify for the DHEP scheme. This works similar to the PCDA scheme. The main difference being the university course is reduced to two years.
Q1: What is the upper age limit for joining the police?
There is no upper age limit for joining the police. Please bear in mind that the normal retirement age is 60. So, if you join under one of the new schemes such as the PCDA which requires for example undergoing a three-year university course to gain the professional policing practice degree and you are 58 when you join, this may not be the most suitable role for you. However, that being said, many people are joining the police in their forties and also in their early fifties.
Q2: What are the health requirements for joining the police?
The health checks to join the police service can vary between specific forces but will usually include the following as a minimum.
You will also be required to complete a health questionnaire which relates to your current and past physical and mental health history. This must also be signed by your GP.
Q3: How many police officers are in Nottinghamshire police?
Nottinghamshire police had around 2,224 police officers in 2021. This has increased over the last couple of years due to the government’s pledge to recruit a further 20,000 police officers across the UK. These police officers cover an area of 834 square miles and provide the diverse community of over 1,000,000 people with any assistance and advice they require.
Q4: What are the eligibility requirements for Nottinghamshire police?
The eligibility criteria remains the same for most UK home office police services, and before applying you should check thoroughly that you are indeed eligible to apply. The selection process is quite lengthy and time consuming so, to avoid disappointment 6-7 months down the line near the end of the process, where it comes to light that your circumstances disqualify you from applying, it is definitely worth checking first.
