SUGGESTED ANSWER:
“I’d like to work for South Wales Police Service for a variety of reasons. Working with this team will allow me to put my skills to use in ways that benefit the area as a whole and the inhabitants’ quality of life. My ultimate career objective has always been to join South Wales police and work as a police officer. If given the opportunity, I am certain that I can develop as a person and as an employee in this fast-paced, high-stakes workplace if given the opportunity. In my experience, the most enjoyable and productive periods of my professional life have been those in which I have pushed myself to expand my knowledge and skills, I feel like this role would be an excellent chance to do this. I’ve always wanted to be a police officer because I am determined, committed, and capable of managing the duties that come with the position. Two of the most compelling aspects of this line of work are the regular chances to take on new initiatives and tasks, as well as the opportunity to make South Wales a safer environment for all its inhabitants.”
SUGGESTED ANSWER
“To succeed in the profession, a police officer must have excellent communication skills. In order to complete their responsibilities properly, police officers must be able to speak with members of the public, listen to what they have to say, and gather evidence through verbal and written communication. When dealing with criminal suspects, witnesses, and victims, members of the police force must follow the department’s established principles, standards, and operational procedures. Strong abilities to operate well both alone and in groups are essential. Going above and beyond to ensure the safety of people you have sworn to serve and protect is an important component of being an excellent police officer. Because the work is unpredictable, police officers must have trust in their abilities to manage unanticipated difficulties. Citizens know they can rely on and trust you as a police officer. As a result, all officers must act honourably and to the best of their ability in order to assist in the settlement of any concerns brought to their attention. Officers are required to have a detailed awareness of the territory under their command, as well as the measures put in place to ensure the safety of the general population. Police officers must work together as well as individually to properly investigate crimes and respond to community concerns.”

Q1: How many police officers are in South Wales Police?
South Wales Police has almost 3,000 serving police officers, and large numbers of PCSOs and special constables, making them the largest police service in Wales. Spanning 812 square miles and with a population of 1,300,000 accounting for over 40% of the country’s population. In regards to terrain South Wales has a diverse mixture of urban, coastal and rural areas each with their own unique policing challenges.
Q2: Is there a height requirement to become a police officer?
There is no minimum or maximum height requirement preventing people from becoming a police officer in the UK.
Q3: How do I become a police officer in South Wales?
To be eligible to apply to become a police officer with South Wales police you will need to either have a level 3 qualification in two subjects to be able to apply via the PCDA route, or hold a degree in any subject which you can use to qualify for DHEP programme. You can also study for a degree under the Pre-join degree scheme. This allows you to first study for the degree and then apply once you have completed the degree.
Alternately, some forces do have entrance routes for serving PCSOs and special constables, if certain conditions are met. But please check with your force first.
It is worth noting that all of these routes are subject to the successful completion of the South Wales Police selection process to become a Police Officer.
Q4: How long is South Wales police training?
The initial South Wales Police Officer training will last for six months and will be mixture of classroom and on-the-job training.
This will not interfere with your degree course as you will still also follow the curriculum for the 3 years under the PCDA scheme, or 2 years if you joined under the degree holder route.
