SUGGESTED ANSWER:
“I wish to work for the Staffordshire Police Service for a variety of reasons. Working with this team will provide me the opportunity to put my skills to use in ways that are beneficial to the community as a whole as well as the lives of the inhabitants. My long-term career ambition has always been to join the Staffordshire Police and work as a policing officer there. If given the chance I am certain that I can grow as a person and as an employee in this fast-paced, high-stakes workplace. The most engaging and rewarding periods of my professional life, in my experience, have been those in which I pushed myself to widen my knowledge and abilities; I feel that this position would be an excellent chance to do so. Because I am resilient, devoted, and able to handle the duties that come with the job, I have always had the ambition to become a police officer. Two of the most compelling reasons to explore this line of work are the opportunities to make Staffordshire a safer environment for all of its population and the regular chances to take on new initiatives and tasks.”
SUGGESTED ANSWER
“To prosper on the job, a police officer must have excellent communication skills. Police officers need strong verbal and written communication skills to properly interact with the public, listen to their concerns, and collect evidence. When speaking with criminal suspects, witnesses, and victims, members of the policing team are obligated to conduct themselves in accordance with the specified values, standards, and operational procedures of the service. A strong ability to operate successfully both independently and in groups is necessary for this position. Being a good officer requires going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the well-being of the county to whom one is committed to serve and protect. Because of the unpredictability of the work, police officers need to have confidence in their abilities so that they can overcome unanticipated obstacles. As a law enforcement official, people look to you for guidance and know they can rely on you to carry out your duties in an appropriate manner. As a part of this, every officer is required to conduct themselves in a manner that is professional and work to the best of their ability in order to assist to the resolution of any issues that are brought to their attention. Officers are required to have a comprehensive knowledge of the area that falls under their authority, as well as the preventative measures that have been taken to ensure the safety of the general public. In order for police officers to effectively investigate crimes and address issues raised by members of the community, they need to collaborate with one another as well as operate independently.”

Yes! I Want To Pass My Interview! The simple answer to this question is; all parts of the selection process are equally challenging. The selection process is purposely designed this way to avoid selecting candidates who are not suitable for the role. The career of a police officer is a much sought-after role, but this does require a certain type of person to perform the role to the required standards, and not everyone has these qualities.
That being said, although challenging, with the right preparation and willingness to succeed, if you also have the qualities and attributes which make a good officer, you will have an excellent chance of success.
Q1: How many police officers are in Staffordshire Police?
There are around 1,750 police officers backed up with a large number of special constables and PCSOs who serve the community of 1,100,000 people spread across the county of more than 1,000 square miles of rural and built up urban areas. These include Tamworth, Stoke-on-Trent and Burton-upon-Trent.
Q2: Will being a special constable help me become a police officer?
Although some forces do offer entry routes through being a serving special constable, there are certain conditions which need meeting. Such as; you would need to have reached Independent Patrol Status (IPS) and have served for at least 18 months in the current role. It is also worth noting, that you would have to pass the selection process as anyone else would, but the eligibility may differ.
Even if this route is not available, being a special constable will certainly be advantageous, as you would already have the required skills and qualities due to your service as a special and should be able to demonstrate this during the selection process to become a police officer.
Q3: How long is Staffordshire police vetting?
The vetting process can take a number of weeks. This will depend on the number of candidates that require vetting. Also, if any enhanced vetting such as National Security Vetting are required this can take quite a while longer. Usually, if only standard vetting is required, candidates should expect to hear back within 4 weeks.
Q4: Do you need A levels to join Staffordshire police as a police officer?
There are currently a number of schemes available to become a Police Officer with Staffordshire Police. Each of these will require you to have the following qualifications as a minimum.
For the PCDA (Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship) you will need both level 2 and level 3 qualifications. These equate to GCSEs and A levels. With the PCDA, you will work towards a degree whilst working full time as a police officer. The degree course lasts for three years.
Another route into policing with Staffordshire police is the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP). As the title suggests, this route requires you to have a degree in any subject which you can use to qualify to undertake the degree in professional policing practice. With this route the university degree course is two years.
You can also apply to undertake the degree in professional policing practice before applying to become a police officer, this follows the eligibility requirements of the degree apprenticeship and is a three-year course. Please note, if you choose this route you would have to fund the course yourself. Unlike the PCDA and DHEP which are funded by Staffordshire police.
